After the success of the previous November's trial in which a round trip between Leeds and Carlisle was piloted by freight locomotives on each of four Saturdays, today saw the first of another four days featuring exotic power on the 'S&C' - two of which included a second out and back trip starting from the Carlisle end. 26007 + 47443 await departure from Leeds with 1M43 1045 to Carlisle having earlier worked south on 1E09 (24/02/1990)

A week later it was the turn of 58036 to make the debut for the Class on the 'S&C'. The Type 5 is pictured on arrival at Carlisle after working 1M09 0825 from Leeds in tandem with 47456 (03/03/1990)

Week three saw a '37' on the Leeds starter, and having been to Carlisle and back, 37104 + 47456 are seen arriving at Settle on 1E11 1242 Carlisle - Leeds (10/03/1990)

The last of the four days of freight locomotives piloting '47/4s' over the 'S&C' saw the appearance of 56075. The 'Grid' arrives at Shipley in the company of 47453 on 1M09 0825 Leeds - Carlisle (17/03/1990)

For those who ventured to the 'Border City' an unexpected 'fill-in' move was available after the failure of the booked 'DMU'. 31200 is seen here at Wetheral with the 1135 Carlisle - Newcastle (17/03/1990)

With its duty for the day now over, headboards are removed from the front of 56041 at Westbury by the Pathfinder stewards. From here 47817 took the 'Mendip Quarryman' back to Manchester by means of an initial detour up to Whatley Quarry (31/03/1990)
