Part 1 (January - July)

My first loco of the year was 40012, which unexpectedly turned up at Bingley on 1E23 1040 Carlisle - Leeds, and is seen here at the train's destination. Other than pioneer 'D200' (which was retained until 1988) this was my last main-line run behind a '40' as the remaining active members of the Class had been retired by the end of the month (02/01/1985)

Fun and games at Birmingham New Street after 50046 'Ajax' failed on the approach to the station with 1S71 0730 Penzance - Glasgow. 86258 was on hand to drag the ensemble the short distance into the platform (26/01/1985)

One of my most outrageous ever 'fall-ons' was the day I arrived at York on the late-running 1M73 1125 Newcastle - Liverpool (which had been diverted via Stockton because of a blockage on the ECML) to find 20111 + 20130 at the head of 2P10 1325 to Scarborough. The pair are seen running round at their destination before returning with 2P17 1446 to York (10/04/1985)

26038 + 26041 enjoy the morning sunshine at Inverness before heading 'across the top' with 1A27 1032 to Aberdeen. The pair had earlier worked the morning commuter train from Invergordon that was being trialled (12/04/1985)
