Journey's end for me some twelve hours later as 47853 + 47828 wait to depart Derby on the final thirty miles of their marathon trek to Leicester with 1Z36. The return leg from Inverness had included a run over the Forth Bridge before turning right at Dalmeny towards Falkirk Grahamston and picking up the outward route via the WCML and Hope Valley at Law Junction (11/10/2021)
47805 arrives back into Appleby station with the 5Z38 1520 shunt from the North East Sidings. The stock was for 1Z38 1532 return 'Statesman' charter to High Wycombe via the Cumbrian Coast which the loco hauled most of the way back south after an un-planned reversal in Carlisle station. Sister loco 47853 (out of sight on the rear in this shot) was found to be low on fuel after earlier working both the ECS from Crewe and the whole of the outward leg single-handed rather than in multiple as originally intended (16/10/2021)
47828 + 47805 await departure from Edinburgh Waverley with 1Z63 1552 'Statesman' charter to Leicester. Engineering work on the ECML had seen the outward leg routed across the Tyne Valley, with the return about to take what was perhaps a more orthodox route via the S&C (23/10/2021)
