A dozen or so miles into its journey over the 'S&C', 47820 pauses for a 'photo stop' at Ribblehead (11/06/1994)

Later that afternoon 47820 awaits departure from Carlisle with the 1655 return leg to Lincoln, which was to provide me with my first '47' over the stretch of line between Nottingham and Newark (11/06/1994)

47374's days are numbered as it moves closer to its inevitable demise at Booth's scrapyard in Rotherham. To the rear are a pair of '08' shunters and two Class '50s' at one time intended for re-engineering by the abortive 'Operation Collingwood' (18/06/1994)

Renumbered from 47152, 47398 was one of a small batch of RfD '47s'n fitted with multiple working equipment for use on heavy container trains to/from the Port of Felixstowe. It reverted to its former identity in the Autumn of the following year (18/06/1994)

47288 is flanked by 47256 (left) and 47270 (18/06/1994)

A close-up of 47288, which had been derailed in September of the previous year at Maidstone East whilst working 6M57 Dover - Willedsden. After falling on its side the loco sustained serious damage, and although technically stored awaiting repairs at the time, the loco understandably never returned to traffic (18/06/1994)

There's more than a little irony about this photo as just a few years earlier 47214 had been named 'Tinsley TMD' after its home depot. The loco makes for a sorry sight in the company of 47317 'Willesden Yard' - which was to return to traffic the following year with Freightliner (18/06/1994)

47345 'Scimitar' and 47371 'Stingray' were two more locos that would subsequently be given a new lease of life with Freightliner. Less than two years earlier of course, the pair had both featured on passenger duties on the Waterloo - Salisbury - Exeter route during that unforgettable few weeks when RfD locos were drafted in to supplement the ailing home-based fleet (18/06/1994)
