The 'Peace Train' organisation had been set up earlier that year to campaign against the repeated bombing of the Dublin to Belfast railway line by the IRA (28/10/1989)

The larger '071' Class machines weren't yet permitted to work the Sligo line due to weight restrictions, and all services on the route were still booked for pairs of the smaller GM locos (28/10/1989)
