200033 + 215028 are pictured on arrival at Wernigerode with SDZ62144, the 0539 charter from Cologne. Just visible top right of the picture is the summit of the Brocken (09/02/2019)
Past meets present as a pair of Abellio Class 648 DMUs depart Wernigerode with RE 75711 1206 Goslar - Halle as their predecessors wait to shunt the charter stock (09/02/2019)
Having been blessed with several minutes of Winter sunshine, typically the clouds rolled in just as the train began to roll! The stylish 'V200' still makes an incredibly imposing sight though (09/02/2019)
With the Brocken now immersed in cloud, 200033 + 215028 are seen here reversing the empty stock into the loop behind the station for servicing (09/02/2019)
The pair pass the former signal box at Wernigerode as they run round their train (09/02/2019)
A closer look at the 'V200' which had been split from the '215' to allow it to lead the return leg of the charter later that evening (09/02/2019)
215028 catches the afternoon sunshine at Wernigerode. This was the loco's first passenger working for many years, having been called up as a replacement for the intended 'lollo' prototype that had suffered a major engine failure in the weeks leading up to the tour (09/02/2019)
With the '215' and then the train to the rear, the 'V200' is refuelled from a road tanker ahead of the return journey (09/02/2019)
Wernigerode is also the main operating base of the renowned Harz Narrow Gauge Railways, where diesel loco no 199 874 is pictured on shed. The 'Harz Camels' as they are known are a narrow gauge version of the standard former Deutsche Reichsbahn 'V100' design and are generally used for hauling works trains (09/02/2019)
With the re-fuelling completed, the two locos sparkle in the afternoon sunshine having been re-united for the return journey. On a clear day the Brocken would be visible immediately behind them, but was still hidden by the clouds (09/02/2019)
200033 + 215028 at Wernigerode with the stock for the return SDZ62145 1756 charter to Cologne. The pair worked the train throughout via Hildesheim, Hannover, MInden, Bielefeld, Hamm, Dortmund and Dusseldorf (09/02/2019)
One of the railway's standard 2-10-2 tank locomotives, no 99 236 is pictured alongside 199 874 outside the HSB signal box at Wenigerode (09/02/2019)
99 241 crosses the road junction at Westerntor on the outskirts of the town with train 8930, the 1314 Brocken - Wernigerode (09/02/2019)
One of the classic 'HSB' scenes as 99 236 stops the traffic at Westerntor with 8937, the 1455 Wernigerode - Brocken (09/02/2019)
In the last of the daylight 99 234 arrives back into Wernigerode with train no 8904, the 1408 from Eisfelder Talmuhle (09/02/2019)
218345 + 218380 arrive into Itzehoe with IC2311 0926 Westerland - Stuttgart Hbf (10/02/2019)
218831 + 218473 stand at Itzehoe with IC2072 0836 Berlin Sudkreuz - Westerland. The locomotives are about to run round their train, which had just been terminated short of its destination due to what was described as a 'medical emergency' blocking the line between here and Klanxbull (10/02/2019)
A grey day on the Marschbahn in more ways than one as 218473 + 218831 wait to head back south with IC2073, which would today start forward from Niebull at 1613 (10/02/2019)
Later that afternoon 218385 + 218397 are pictured on arrival at Itzehoe with IC2375 1056 Westerland - Karlsruhe. The train had been trapped by the earlier incident for three and a half hours and would today terminate at Hamburg Hbf. In the opposite platform is 101094 on the rear of IC2374 0905 ex-Karlsruhe, for which until the arrival of the late-running 'Rabbits' there was no forward traction to Westerland (10/02/2019)
An unexpected bonus to round off the day was the appearance at Itzehoe of hit-listed 120147, which took the delayed IC2375 forward to Hamburg Hbf. WIth a replacement service having already been sent south in its booked path several hours earlier, the loco and stock were then utilised for an additional IC2909 1728 'ersatzzug' to Kassel in place of ICE1687 (10/02/2019)
The following morning 218453 waits to depart from Lubeck with RE21602 0606 to Kiel Hbf, one of only two loco-hauled trains in each direction booked to traverse this route (11/02/2019)
An hour or so later my last bit of required track currently available for a 'Rabbit' on a timetabled passenger train was in the bag: 218453 is pictured on arrival at the Baltic terminus (11/02/2019)
As daybreak nears, 112144 waits to depart from Kiel Hbf with RE21009 0727 to Hamburg, one of the few trains on this particular route that aren't worked by EMUs (11/02/2019)
Later that morning 218385 + 218397 are pictured shortly before departure from Westerland with IC2375 1056 to Karlsruhe (11/02/2019)
