The wider angle view of what is actually quite an interesting spot if you like your railway history, as the line once continued beyond the present day buffer stop for another 1/4 mile into a headshunt on the quayside where the rails are still extant amongst the cobbles. It's a pleasant looking town with a 'Brauhaus' just across the river and I'm hoping this loco-hauled turn will continue for long enough for me to make a return visit during the summer months (26/03/2023)
A couple of hours later 218397 + 218379 await departure from Itzehoe with IC2074 0756 Berlin Südkreuz - Westerland (26/03/2023)
Although the ideal move would have been to stick with the pair to Sylt and back, the small matter of a late evening flight out of Hamburg and an impending national rail strike the following day prompted a more cautious approach. I'd alighted ay Niebüll to travel south on the first of the two available IC trains, which at least offered the rare opportunity of a lineside photo on what was once again a very pleasant Spring day: 218397 + 218379 are seen here setting out on the last leg of their journey to Westerland (26/03/2023)
